This
is usually done using a procedure called a craniotomy. During a craniotomy, a
small portion of the skull is cut to provide the surgeon with access to a
source of hemorrhage. The surgeon prevents damage to the blood vessels and
ensures that blood remains in place to help block blood flow to the brain.
After the bleeding stops, the part of the skull is returned. After a skeletal
chronotomy, the patient is likely to be connected to a ventilator to help him
breathe.
